The latest data related to the pandemic indicated that as many as 3,691,166 people have been infected by the virus, while the active cases stood at 785,996.
Following the United States and Brazil, India has become the third country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
Another statistics in the south-Asian country also indicated a rise: India’s recovery rate continues to increase and now with 2,839,882 patients recovered from the disease, total recoveries stands at 76.9 percent.
Indian media also reported the death of country’s former president Pranab Mukherjee who died on Monday following weeks of hospitalization and a COVID-19 diagnosis.
The India ex-president was 84 when he died and had been in coma after a brain surgery earlier this month.
Mukherjee’s brain surgery was successful, but his condition deteriorated Sunday when he developed a lung infection and went into septic shock.
