Afghan national and defense forces carried out joint operations yesterday in Murghab district of the western Ghor province in a bid to recapture the territory from the Taliban, said Abdul Maroof Ramesh, a spokesman for the provincial police chief.

The district was retaken by government forces today morning, Ramesh added.

Casualties were inflicted to the armed Taliban, said Ramesh, without mentioning the exact number of fighters killed or wounded.

In another incident, a woman and a child were wounded in clashes between Afghan government forces and the Taliban in Tiora district of the province, according to the spokesman.

At least three security forces were also injured during the clash, as per the spokesman’s information. There were reports of casualties to the Taliban fighters too, but the exact number wasn’t confirmed.

The armed group has yet to comment.
