As many as 16 Taliban insurgents were killed and another three injured as their planned attack was thwarted by Afghan forces, said the ministry in a statement.
To quote a press release by the MoD, a number of armed Taliban fighters planned last night to attack on some parts of Mizan district in the southern Zabul province.
The attack was fended off, leaving 16 members of the armed group killed and three wounded, according to the statement.
The group has yet to comment to media.
