The Taliban group’s fighters attacked a military outpost in Shorabak district of the southern Kandahar last night at around 10:00pm, triggering clashes between the Afghan forces and the militants, said Jamal Naser Barekzai, a spokesman for the provincial police chief.
The assault was fended off by the pro-government forces, leaving 11 of the insurgents killed and another five injured, according to Mr. Barekzai.
There was no report of casualties brought to Afghan forces.
The armed group has yet to comment.
