Munir Ahmad Farhad, a spokesman for the provincial governor confirmed to The Killid Group that the restrictions were being reimposed from today (May,31) on.
The new lockdown measures and restriction on people’s movements will be monitored by several government agencies, Mr. Farhad continued.
Meanwhile, wearing masks has been made mandatory in the province, said the governor’s spokesperson, adding the people violating the lockdown will be faced legal action.
As per the decision of authorities, facial protective masks will be distributed in some parts of the province for free, he further added.
The residents of Mazar-e-Sharif has welcomed the measures taken, calling it a good step in slowing the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
Wali Mohammad and Rohullah, two residents of the city urged the government and the merchants to distribute protective mask for the people in need for free.
Ahmad Shah, another resident of Mazar-e-Sharif, however, was unhappy with the coronavirus imposed restrictions, calling it a disaster for the vulnerable and poor families. Most of the families have consumed what they have had and are less able to afford their livelihood, he said.
The announcement of lockdown measures comes at a time the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to health officials in the province, is rapidly spreading across the country and in the northern Balkh province. They call on people to take measures serious.
Based on the latest data provided by the Afghan health ministry, as many as 1,100 residents of Balkh province have tested positive for the deadly disease.
