COVID-19 Infection Toll Surpasses 12,000 in Afghanistan, with Total of 227 Deaths

Addressing a press conference, the Afghan public health deputy minister, Dr. Wahidullah Majroh said a total of 625 new laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases were recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide toll to 12,456.

With seven confirmed deaths in the past 24 hours, total of fatalities in the country is now at 227, a data by the ministry indicated.

According to the official data provided by the health ministry, at least ten patients having been infected with the novel COVID-19 have recovered after the illness, bringing the recovery toll to more than a thousand in the country.

Meanwhile, officials in the western province of Herat, the country’s second worst-hit region, have announced that as many as 108 residents of the province have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the provincial case count to 1966.

As the people are easing stay-at-home restrictions and the number of cases increases day by day,
Afghan health ministry once again called on the country’s citizens to follow the imposed orders, adding that the restrictions will be gradually lifted if the situation improves.
