The death toll from COVID–19 in Brazil has hit 21,048, with a total of 330,890 confirmed cases, according to the John Hopkins University’s tracking center.
With more than 330,000 infections confirmed as of today, Brazil is now the country with the second-highest number worldwide after the United States.
Most of Brazil’s cases are in densely populated Sao Paulo, but the highest rate of infection is in the state of Amazonas, said WHO emergencies director Mike Ryan.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the South America is now an “epicenter” of the COVID-19 pandemic with Brazil the hardest-hit country.
COVID-19 has killed more than 338,225 people since it surfaced in China late last year, according to a JHU’s tally, with more than 5.2 million declared cases.
