Coronavirus: Infection Toll Surpasses 5,000 as Afghanistan Records 259 New Laboratory-Confirmed Cases

Afghanistan reported some 259 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases within the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 5,226, the Afghan health ministry officials said on Wednesday.

The Afghan Public Health Ministry announced that within the last 24 hours, 259 cases of infection were recorded in several provinces of Afghanistan, raising the total to 5,226 in the country.

The cases of infection were recorded in Kabul, Balkh, Kandahar, Takhar, Nangarhar, Kunar, Herat, Badghis, Parwan, Jawzjan, Baghlan, Daikundi, Panjshir, Faryab, Zabul, Kunduz, Nimrouz, Farah, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Bamyan, Helmand, Ghor and Laghman provinces, the health ministry reported.

The country’s toll of fatalities from coronavirus jumped to 132 as five more patients lost battle for their lives, the total recoveries hit 652 as recently 42 patients having been contracted with illness recovered back.

Recently, the some provinces, including Balkh, have announced easing lockdown restrictions, but the ministry of health warned lifting lockdowns can lead to a health disaster in the country.
