May 09 (The Killid Group) – Pakistan begins easing its nationwide lockdown from Saturday on, country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday, Pakistani media reported.
The measures taken have been wreaking the economy of the country; thus, it has announced lifting lockdowns even as there has been a rise in new coronavirus cases.
Pakistani PM Khan urged the public to continue following social distancing guidelines, but reiterated another lockdown would be imposed if cases spiked again due to breaching the guidelines.
“We need to discipline ourselves,” said PM Khan in a televised address announcing the easing of the lockdown would begin on Saturday. “We can’t send the police to make raids. In an independent society this doesn’t happen.”
Schools will remain shut until mid-July, and there were no plans as of today to restart public transportation or domestic flights.
Since the outbreak, Pakistan has reported a rise in its coronavirus infections.
As of today, at least 27,474 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus, while the total fatalities hit 618 in the country.
