Pakistan: COVID-19 Infection Cases Top 24,000 , Death Toll at 564

May 07 (The Killid Group) — The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan passed 24,000 and the death toll moved to 564 on Thursday, according to the Pakistan’s health ministry tracker.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) infection toll hit 24,073 in Pakistan, with a total of 544 fatalities in the country, data by the website of Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination indicated.

As of today, Sindh has reported a total of 8,640 cases in Pakistan, while Punjab with 9,077 cases remains the country’s coronavirus hotspot, the source added.

The federal government of Pakistan announced it was pushing for easing lockdowns across the country.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday [May 04] said the nationwide lockdown will be lifted gradually, highlighting that Pakistan cannot afford an indefinite closure.

Pakistan has also raised concerns over the returning of its citizens from the United Arab Emirates to home, and they are infected with COVID-19 and that crowded living conditions for workers in the UAE may be helping to spread the virus, officials said on Tuesday.

Despite the pandemic, Pakistan has also reopened tens of thousands of mosques for prayers across the country without observing any measures—such as having a face mask or hand sanitizers.

While most of the Muslim countries have shut down mosques in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
