04 May (The Killid Group) — Afghanistan recorded its highest infection toll—the second consecutive rise.

Addressing to media, the Afghan deputy health minister, Wahid Majruh, announced on Monday that the country’s tally has jumped to 2,894 and that the number of confirmed infections, including deaths, recovered and current cases, had risen to 3,381 in the country.

The daily rise in the number of infections and deaths was sharply high for the second day in a row, a sign the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is approaching the peak of its crisis.

According to deputy public health minister, Wahid Majruh, the total active cases in the last 24 hours includes 41 cases in Paktia, 30 in Herat, 25 in Kandahar, 24 in Kabul, 17 in Balkh, 13 in Nangarhar, 11 in Laghman, 9 in Farah, 6 in Sar-e-Pul, five in Kunar, three in Zabul, two in Paktika, and one in each Khost, Uruzgan, Helmand, and Nimruz provinces.

Presenting the latest statistics, 397 patients having been contracted with the disease have recovered as additional 52 patients got better after the illness in the past 24 hours.

The ministry’s latest figures related to the pandemic, however, indicated that over the past 24 hours, five infected patients have died of the virus, taking the nationwide death toll to 90.

Globally, the pandemic has infected more than 3,507,424 people and killed more than 247,497, mostly in the United States and the Europe.
