May 02 (The Killid Group) − Afghanistan confirmed some 179 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the tally to 2,469, the country’s health ministry spokesman said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Waheedullah Mayar, health ministry spokesman, said that in the last 24 hours, 179 infections were recorded in 12 provinces of Afghanistan, taking the toll to 2,469 in the country.
Some 75 cases of infection were recorded in Kabul province, while 23 in Herat, 18 in Balkh, 16 in Jawzjan, 15 in Kandahar, 10 more in Ghazni, seven in the northern Baghlan province, five in Logar, four in Takhar, three in Ghor, and one in Helmand were confirmed, Dr. Mayar added.
The country’s number of deaths from coronavirus reached 73 as five more patients lost battle for their lives, said the ministry spokesperson.
The total recoveries, however, hit 331 as 31 patients having been contracted with illness recovered.
After originating in Wuhan, China last December, the virus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 185 countries and regions across the world, with its epicenter shifting to the United States and Europe.
