March 10 (The Killid Group) – The Reuters news agency quoted five official sources as saying, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani will issue a decree on the release of at least 1,000 Taliban prisoners by this week.
Earlier on Monday, President Ghani was sworn for a second term in a ceremony in the Presidential Palace where a number of international representatives, including U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, as well as U.S. and NATO forces commander General Scott Miller, attended, according to the reporters of The Killid Group.
A number of ambassadors have also attended Ghani’s presidential swearing-in ceremony, reporters from The Killid Group said.
President Ghani after he was sworn said in his remarks that he would issue a decree on Tuesday about the 5,000 Taliban prisoners the Taliban has demanded in order to begin intra-Afghan talks.
The prisoner release is also a part of the U.S.-Taliban agreement allows U.S. and NATO to drawdown their troops from Afghanistan to end more than 18 years of war.
No immediate comment by the presidential spokesman has been made so far.
