March 9 (The Killid Group) — Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was sworn in at the Presidential Palace for the second time while his rival Dr. Abdullah Abdullah held his own inauguration ceremony at the Sapedar Palace.
As mediation efforts failed, the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai took oath for a second term; however, his rival Dr. Abdullah Abdullah refused to recognize the inauguration and held a parallel swearing in ceremony.
In Ghani’s inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Palace (ARG), a number of international representatives, including U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, as well as U.S. and NATO forces commander General Scott Miller, attended, according to the reporters of The Killid Group.
A number of ambassadors have also attended Ghani’s presidential swearing-in ceremony, reporters from The Killid Group said.
Abdullah Abdullah, on the other hand, held a parallel inauguration ceremony and reiterated that his “inclusive government” will ensure reform in governance.
The conflicts between Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah came after the Independent Election Commission (IEC) last month announced Ashraf Ghani as the winner of September’s presidential elections.
Abdullah, however, rejected the final results and proclaimed himself winner.
