(TKG) ─ According media reports, late on Sunday evening [January 26, 2020], five Katyusha rockets crashed in the Green Zone of Iraq’s capital city that, reportedly, three of them hit the U.S. embassy.
Media reported, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone came under attack from rocket fire on Sunday evening.
Five rockets crashed into a riverbank near the embassy in the Iraqi capital without causing any injuries, U.S. officials told media, but media has cited a security source as saying that three of the rockets “directly hit the U.S. embassy.”
This is the third time the Green Zone comes under missile attacks, however, no one has so claimed responsibility for the attack.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi condemned the attack in a statement, calling it an “aggression” that could “drag Iraq into becoming a war zone”.
