Civil Society Organizations and Residents in Kabul Urge for Ending War in Afghanistan

(TKG) ─ A number of civil society organizations and Kabul residents gathered for a rally in Kabul city and urged for a ceasefire in the country and for the continuation of Afghan-led peace talks.

During the rally, they said that the Afghan government and society should engage in peace talks with the Taliban as one of the sides involved in the war.

Abdul Karim Mohammadi, one of the organizers of the rally, said to The Killid Group reporter that Afghan society wants a permanent truce and that the Taliban’s plan to reduce violence is not acceptable for us.

According to him, the ceasefire is the only way to achieve long lasting peace in the country.

One of the protesters, Afghanayar Popal, in the meantime, said that we want and support an “Afghan-led, Afghan-owned” peace process.

According to him, “imposed peace” is unacceptable for the Afghan people.

Ahmad Hewad Rahyab, head of Nawandish Civil Society Organization in Afghanistan, meanwhile, said that Afghan people are the primary victims of war in Afghanistan, so they should be the primary focus of peace talks with the Taliban.

Recently, sources close to the Taliban said that the group has agreed with the U.S. on a reduction of violence in major cities of Afghanistan, but the Afghan government has always said that ceasefire is the only way to achieve long lasting peace in Afghanistan.
