(TKG) ─ According to Sohail Shaheen, the spokesperson for the office of the Taliban in Qatar as writing on his Twitter page, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s political leader met late on Monday with Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Envoy for Reconciliation in Afghanistan, and General Scott Miller, commander of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in the country.
The Taliban’s spokesperson, Suhail Shaheen, posted on his Twitter page as saying, during the meeting both sides discussed the recent stages of the peace agreement in detail; however, no further details of the meeting were made.
According to him, the talks would continue tomorrow as well.
After several months of delays in US-Taliban talks, negotiations were resumed and it was determined that the two sides would reach an agreement this time.
The Afghan government, in the meantime, underscored opening a ceasefire by the Taliban, adding that a peace agreement without a ceasefire is meaningless.
The Taliban, however, do not accept the truce but have agreed on reducing violence.
