(TKG) ─ Media reported as saying, airbase that used to house U.S. troops north of Baghdad was targeted with several rockets on Sunday [January 12, 2020], leaving four Iraqi soldiers wounded.
According to officials as saying to media, at least four Iraqi soldiers have been injured when rocket barrages targeted an Iraqi airbase in north of Baghdad which used to host U.S. troops.
It was quoted in a statement reported by media as saying, the al-Balad airbase, located some 80km away from the Iraq’s capital of Baghdad, was hit by several rockets on Sunday.
According to Iraqi officials, some projectiles fell on a restaurant inside the airbase, while others hit the runway and the gate.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack so far, yet no casualties have been left to U.S. troops.
However, U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, condemned the attack on Sunday.
The incident comes as US-Iran tensions have been heightened following the U.S. assassination of a top Iranian commander in Baghdad and Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes against U.S. targets in Iraq.
