(TKG) ─ Thousands of people marched Saturday in a funeral procession through the Iraqi capital.
The mourners alternated between chants including “No, no, America,” “Death to America” and “America is the Great Satan,” according to multiple media outlets.
Saturday’s funeral procession through Baghdad and Iraq’s Shia Muslim holy cities precedes the return of Soleimani’s remains to Iran.
The funeral procession in Baghdad marks the beginning of days of mourning for Soleimani and will be held on Tuesday in Iran.
His body is due to be returned to Iran for burial in his home town.
Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds military force and one of the most powerful figures in the Islamic Republic, was killed early Friday in an airstrike in Baghdad.
