It has been reported by U.S. media Sunday [December 15, 2019] that Washington is announcing the withdrawal of 4,000 U.S. troops from Afghanistan in the near term.
As the result of withdrawal of these troops, the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan would be reduced to 8,000 soldiers.
It was also reported by Fox News agency few days back that U.S. President Donald Trump told that he would reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan to 8,600.
Earlier, U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper also warned that if the Taliban were to be compromised or not, U.S. would reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan.
Currently, there are 14,000 U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan of which 5,000 troops are in charge of counter-terrorism and the rest in training Afghan forces.
In the meantime, one of the spokesmen for the U.S. troops has denied the report by the U.S. media saying that the country had not made any decision on the matter so far.
