It was quoted in a statement released by the Deputy Spokeswoman of the President, Durranai Waziri [December 8, 2019] as saying that peace talks have been resumed between U.S. and the Taliban in Qatar.
She expressed her hope that this time the talks would contribute to a stable and long-lasting peace and to a reduction of violence in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson for the office of Taliban in Qatar, Sohail Shaheen, also confirmed the resumption of peace talks between them and the U.S.
He wrote on his twitter page, “On Saturday talks between the Taliban and US resumed from where these discussions were left off,”
According to some sources, have also told the media that the focus of the talks on both sides will be a noticeable reduction in the violence and acceptance of a ceasefire which will facilitate the Intra-Afghan negotiations.
The U.S. has been in peace talks with the Taliban for nine months, but U.S. President, Donald Trump abruptly suspended the peace negotiations with Taliban due to the assassination of an American Marine in a suicide car bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Thursday, [September 5, 2019].
