After several weeks of protests and violence in Iraq, Parliament of Iraq approved resignation of Adel Abdul Mahdi on Sunday [December 1, 2019].

Iraqi legislators called upon President Barham Saleh to name a new prime minister.

Under the constitution, the president is expected to ask the largest bloc in parliament to nominate a new prime minister to form a government.

According to reports, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and the current government will continue their duties until a new government is formed.

Since October, at least 400 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands more have been injured in protests against corruption, hunger and unemployment in Baghdad and other cities of Iraq.
