KABUL (The Killid Group) – President Ashraf Ghani, who is running for a second bid, refused at the last minute to take part in a Live TV debate with his main rival Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Monday evening.
His surprise decision came after Abdullah had already taken the stage for the event, which would have been the first debate, before the September 28 polls.
Although Ghani did not show up at a lectern, but the program continued as journalist turned the scheduled debate quickly into an interview with Abdullah.
“Ghani cannot debate here. This is his first escape – his second escape will happen after the election,” Abdullah said.
Abdullah has been running for the presidency for a third time coming in second place in 2009 and then 2014 respectively.
With less than two weeks ahead of presidential election on September 28, yet, there has been no debate among the 17 candidates.
