Renovation of the Darul Aman Palace

Darul Aman Palace is located about 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) south-west outside of the center of Kabul, Afghanistan. It sits directly across from the Afghan Parliament, and is close to the National Museum of Afghanistan and the American University of Afghanistan. The Palace was destroyed during the civil war in Kabul.

The project to rebuild this historic palace began in May 2016 with a budget of 25 million Afghanis. The Palace, renovated in a three-story building, is 24-meter-tall, and inaugurated by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on August 21, 2019, during a ceremony commemorating 100th anniversary of country’s Independent Day

Construction of the Darul Aman Palace began in the early 1920s as a part of the endeavors of King Amanullah Khan to modernize Afghanistan. The palace is considered to be a testimony of the Afghan-German ties, as it was designed by German engineer Walter Harten and his team of engineers.
