JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in a meeting Sunday with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, in Jeddah praised its active role in promoting peace and security, as well as support provided to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan sought to develop ties with the OIC to carry out cultural and social projects to combat extremism, hatred and terrorism, Ghani said as Arab News reported.
Meanwhile, “Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen declared support for the AFG peace process & the upcoming presidential election & assured that OIC stands firm & ready to cooperate in Afghanistan’s peace process,” as ARG said in a tweet. “He vowed to send OIC observers to Afghanistan to monitor presidential polls.”

Admiring Afghan government for its firm stance against terrorism, he condemned the recent bombings, which left at least 63 dead and roughly 200 injured during a wedding ceremony in PD6 of the capital Kabul.
Al-Othaimeen called for the Taliban to “stop perpetrating” violence in Afghanistan, as he urged the group to have a direct talks with Afghan government.
“OIC Secretary-General conveyed his condolences to the president, victims’ families&people of AFG over the recent terrorist attack at a wedding party in KBL,” as ARG said in a tweet. “He asked the Taliban to stop perpetrating such violent acts & instead prepare to enter into direct talks with the Gov (government).”
