HERAT (The Killid) – At least 50 passengers were landed at hospitals after a roadside mine went off, hitting a transportation vehicle with all passengers on board in Herat-Kandahar highway, local authorities confirmed.
Mohibullah Mohib, Spokesman for the Farah police, told The Killid, “at least 28 people dead and further 10 wounded in the blast were transferred to Farah province.”
The number of casualties might increase, he added.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Naem Dowlati, Head of provincial hospital, told The Killid, “four killed and 11 injured civilians are landed at the hospital.”
Based on some sources, 34 reported are dead in the incident, he added.
According to Dowlati, officials do not have precise figure on numbers of casualties since victims are transferred to several hospitals in Nimroz and Farah provinces.
The incident occurred around 6am Wednesday in Bala Blook district of Farah province, with officials saying majority of the victims are women and children.
Local authorities claimed the mine were pre-planted in the area by Taliban insurgents.
Taliban immediately did not comment on the incident.
