BALKH (The Killid) – As a week passed since the government barred operations of the private telecommunication companies in Blakh province, residents raise concern over challenges they are facing on daily basis.

All networks, expect Salam, is operating in the province, where people accuse government for not taking any actions in this regards.

They said are suffering great financial losses each day because of disconnection of the telecommunication network; and yet no concerning body has stood up to deal with the problem.

Meanwhile, a number of residents told The Killid that Salam network cannot afford satisfying service to people in the province, adding they spends hours on queue just to purchase a SIM card; but only limited people can make it.

The price of One SIM card of the available network jumped to 1000 Afghanis, which before was only 150 Afghanis.

Meanwhile, Habibullah Khalid, Head of the Salam Telecommunication Network in north, said, “more SIM cards are requested from the central province, and soon the shortage will be resolved.”

Mohammad Taqi Poya, Head of Telecommunication office in Balkh, said its administration is shutting off all black markets that are selling unregistered SIMs, adding “tens of venders in connection to black market have been arrested by police.”

Residents started raising concerns after local government stopped private telecommunication companies from operating and barred its offices throughout the province, as what is believed to have not complied with government order.

“Local authorities in Balkh warned all the telecommunication networks to re-launch its operations during night, its provincial offices will be barred otherwise, and its employees will be introduced to the Attorney General on suspicion of cooperation with the government’s armed opposition,” Munir Ahamad Farhad, Spokesman for the Balkh Governor, said.
