ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (The Killid) – President Ashraf Ghani met Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad Thursday, discussing bilateral cooperation and regional connectivity.

According to a statement by the President’s office, Ghani visited Pakistan as per the suggestion of almost 3,200 delegates of the Grand Consultative Jirga on peace to improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and hope the trip will bear positive outcome.

“The relations between the two countries should be according to mutual respect and government-to-government relations,” the statement said. “We hope this trip will have a positive result for both nations.”

National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib, NDS Chief Masoom Stanekzai and Acting Interior Minister Massoud Andrabi accompanied the president during his visit to Islamabad.

KABUL (The Killid) – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left Kabul for Islamabad Thursday morning, upon a formal invitation by Pakistani leader, to discuss some vital issues on Afghanistan, ARG said in a statement.

The key issues revolve on peace talks with the Taliban, regional connectivity, trade ties and investment, and overall security situation in the country.

The Afghan government has said the trip will also help to find out how Pakistan can contribute in Afghan peace process.

President Ghani’s trip comes after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stressed on Pakistan contribution for Afghan peace, as saying it plays “important” role in bringing peace to the country and region.
