National Unity Gov’t Enemy of Peace: Atmar

KABUL (The Killid) – An Afghan presidential candidate Mohamamd Hanif Atmar at a gathering in Kabul said the National Unity Government is enemy of peace, adding the prolonged presidency of Ashraf Ghani is a “threat” to upcoming elections.

“Not only is the government illegitimate and has violated the constitution, it is also the enemy of peace,” he said, as obviously criticized the extension of Ghani’s tenure. “Any action that is taken for peace, is prevented by the government.”

Atmar further said, five years ago, the president sworn in to protect the constitution, but today the constitution has been violated by the same person, which is unacceptable for people. Ghani should “step down” from his position.

Meanwhile, he accused the government of creating divisions among the tribes of Afghanistan, through which he tends to maintain his “illegitimate power” as the president of the country.

Atmar emphasizing on the creation of a superintendent government, explained the person elected as the president should have limited jurisdiction, and prevent using the rule of law for electoral campaigns.

With months ahead of the presidential elections, he said, “This illegitimate government cannot hold a transparent election and the presidential election will face the same fate as the parliamentary polls.”

It comes at a time a number of presidential candidates gathered at Ghazi Stadium in Afghan capital on Tuesday, discussing the prolonged presidency of Ghani.
