Gov’t Provides 220 Rug Weaving Machine to Local Industrialists

HERAT (The Killid) – The Afghan government has provided at least 220 carpet weaving machine to a number of local industrialists, officials of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitations and Development said.

HERAT (The Killid) – The Afghan government has provided at least 220 carpet weaving machine to a number of local industrialists, officials of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitations and Development said.

According to MRRD, the provided machines worth a total cost of 5.5 million Afghani, which is deducted from the government budget.

Aqa Mohammad Sediqi, Head of the MRRD, explains the purpose of distributing these devices are overall growth of rural economy, raising family economy, women capacity building and development of carpet production in the province.

The machines, with all its equipment and raw materials, have been distributed to 211 women and nine men; later on the government will purchase carpets produced by these people.

Meanwhile, a number of barrio captains welcomed the initiatives, saying such a cooperation and support of the government could help families raise their economy, as it will play role in raising country’s economy.

Sayed Mohammad Mohseni, the captain for PD13 of Herat province, said the country could breakthrough in handcrafts with best quality if these industrialists could gain enough support from the government.

An Afghan rug (also Afghan carpet) is a type of handwoven floor-covering textile traditionally made in Afghanistan. Many of the Afghan rugs are also woven by Afghan refugees who reside in Pakistan. In 2008, 2013 and 2014, Afghan rug won international awards, which is held every year in Hamburg, Germany.
