The United Nations has published a report on “The Situation in Afghanistan and Its Consequences for International Peace and Security” on its website, stating a 70 percent decrease on suicide bombing in Afghanistan.

The United Nations has published a report on “The Situation in Afghanistan and Its Consequences for International Peace and Security” on its website, stating a 70 percent decrease on suicide bombing in Afghanistan.

The security situation in Afghanistan remain alarming, with the report saying suicide attacks in the country have fallen by 70 percent.

“Between 8 February and 9 May 2019, the United Nations recorded a total of 5,249 security-related incidents, a 7 per cent decrease compared with the same period in 2018,” said the statement.

The report also noted armed conflict between security forces and armed opposition groups has decreased by 10 percent compared to the same period last year; but airstrikes by Afghan security forces have increased by 12 percent.

Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, will present the 16-page report to the United Nations Security Council today at 3:00 pm New York time.
