KABUL (The Killid) – The Independent Election Commission at a meeting on women’s participation in registration process held in Kabul Monday, said women’s contribution to the process of registration and election is worthwhile.
Hawa Alam Nuristani, the IEC Head, said, “Women face a lot of challenges in the country; but still are participating in the registration process and their participation is worthwhile.”
According to Nuristani, so far 2,590 people have signed up in new voter registration process in Ghazni province, of which women compose more than 600 of them.
Amina Katbi, deputy of the IEC for gender, said, “Not having Tazkira (also national ID), remoteness of the voter registration centers and unpleasant traditions (conservative culture) are of major barriers for the registration process.”
Meanwhile, officials of the Independent Election Compliant Commission said its office has recorded 41 complaints only from Afghan capital since the beginning.
Zuhra Bayan Shinwari, Head of the IECC, said, “This commission (IECC) made its registration system electronic to gain trust of the people by presenting better transparency.”
The registration process has started on 18th of Jowza on Afghan calendar and will last until 8th of Saratan.
It is worth noted that lack of public participation in this process is one of the main concerns of the electoral commissions.
