FARYAB (The Killid) – At least 19 Taliban insurgents were killed and further 13 were wounded in a series of heavy operations carried by the 209th Shaheen Corps in Khowaja Sabzpsh, Grezwan and Qesar districts in northwest of the country, the Corps said in a statement.
According to the statement, the operations were carried against armed government opposition groups by Afghan commandos and air forces. The Afghan forces did not suffer any casualties.
Meanwhile, opposition groups fired sporadic mortars against local residences in Khowaja Sabzposh district, as they turnabout escaping the battlefield; mortars left at least 14 civilians wounded, including children and women.
But the Taliban insurgents in a statement denied the claim that they fired mortars against civilians houses; and said at least one civilian killed and further eight wounded by Afghan forces.
