The United States Department of Justice delivered to officials in the United Kingdom a formal extradition request for Julian Paul Assange.
Assange, who is currently being detained in the UK, has been indicted by the Justice Department on 18 counts for conspiring to hack into a government computer and for violating the Espionage Act.
According to the British official, they have now received a formal request for extraditing Assange to the United States.

Assange is charged with conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain unauthorized access to a government computer, according to a criminal indictment against Assange which prosecutors in Virginia secretly obtained more than a year ago but only unsealed after Assange’s arrest.
