The Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum warned government of its “inattention” to Northern Provinces security situation, saying he will decide and retaliate against militants on his own if their concerns was not addressed.

Dostum in a gathering surrounded by his advocators, said the Taliban has reached across Maimana city of Faryab, Jawzjan and Blakh provinces, which according to him had no hands in the past.

“I will share this issue with President [Ashraf] Ghani,” Dostum said as quoted by local media. “We will make a decision if he [Ghani] did not listen.”

He also said the commander for the 209 Shaheen Corps in Balkh “does not have the capability to overcome security challenges,” sources said.

“Such people do not deserve to be a general. I would have punished such individuals if I am given the authority,” said Dostum as quoted by local media.  “Which kind of general is he that his 200 soldiers were killed in Qaisar [a district in Faryab]?”

Meanwhile, Commander for the 209th Shaheen Corps Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai said they have had a number of operations in areas mostly insecure, preventing militants’ attacks and helped secure districts from falling into their hands.

Dostum’s remarks come after the Taliban increased its attacks as part of the group’s newly-announced spring offensive.
