Khalilzad Briefs India of Afghan Peace

The United States Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad paid a visit to India Monday, as Doha talks took one-day break on the occasion of Ramadan.

Khalilzad held talks with India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and briefed her on peace efforts in Afghanistan, the Indian spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet Monday.

“Both discussed role of all regional stakeholders in bringing peace and development in Afghanistan,” said Kumar. “India will work with key partners in days ahead.”

Meanwhile, Khalilzad wishing a happy month of Ramadan to all said “Afghans have suffered war’s catastrophic impact for too long. I hope all Afghans take this season to reflect, forgive, and renew faith and commitment to end violence and embrace peace.”

He is expected to join the group in Doha in an attempt to push further through the process.

Doha talks are due to continue Tuesday after a day break, as Muslim communities around the globe marked the first day of Ramadan month Monday.
