Khenjani Complains against Presidential Guards for Persecution

Director of News and Current Affairs of 1TV Abdullah Azada Khenjani was persecuted and beaten by Presidential security guards Monday, as he described was an inappropriate approach towards journalists.

Khenjani said he was humiliated and beaten by presidential guards when he was moving to attend President Ashraf Ghani’s meeting at Government Media and Information Center.

He further said that security guards with no consultations has inspected his mobile phone, after it was confiscated, regardless of his data confidentialities.

Speaking at a press conference Monday, Khenjani said, “Presidential guards have beaten me up and brought me to the inspection room, and in an illegal manner and forcefully opened [inspected] my personal mobile phone.”

“If I committed any suspicious activity, should have they send me to a relevant court for prosecution” – not in all their own, he added.

Meanwhile, Haroon Chakhansoori, Spokesman for the President, expressing apologies said security cameras footage does not show physical assault; but only persecutions and inappropriate behavior.

According to the Spokesman, the perpetrators will be dealt accordingly.

But Khenjani said the guards must be publicly prosecuted for justice, so that it be an example for others to learn before any misconducts against journalists.

It comes amid reports that suggested similar approach towards media practitioners by high-ranking government official’s guards.
