Mass Wedding, an Approach to Fight Extravagance Events

Daykundi (The Killid) – Ministry of Information and Culture – in cooperation with national and international NGOs – held mass wedding, opening the door to at least a 100 couple for their new beginning.

Hussain Sirat, Head of the provincial directorate for the MoIC, told The Killid, “The mass wedding aims to provide financial support for families in need and preventing extravagance celebrations, as well as promoting mass wedding among people in the province.”

According to Sirat, officials have provided each couple – who came from at least 10 districts – with dowries that included primary needs of the newly-wed couples with a total cost of $500 each.

It comes amid efforts to ease young generation with the expenses for a new beginning of their lives, where wedding expenses and financial crises are terribly overwhelming, making it impossible for most families to cope up with the expenses.

Previous reports suggested extravagance weddings with its traditional approach has negative impacts on families, leaving many young couple bachelor or engaged for over five years – yet not a solution.
