Ministry of Finance expressed its readiness to fund Afghanistan’s upcoming presidential elections, as the country and international donors finalized its need for elections.
Zahed Hamdard, Deputy Minister of Finance, said primary budget estimation for the elections have been made by the Independent Election Commission; and after it is finalized, MoF – in coordination with the donors – will render fund for the elections.
It comes after the IEC submitted its primary budget estimations to the MoF, with a figure of some $192 million for presidential, parliamentary and provincial council elections.
If ever the elections goes for a second round, a backup budget plan has also been drafted.
