It comes after Khalilzad met with Provincial leaders, elderlies, women and civil society activists in Kandahar province, discussing a wide-range of talks around peace in the country.
He stressed the need for inclusion of all Afghans from different layers of the society, including women, adding it is “time to finally attain it [peace].”
“Today I visited #Kandahar, a city I’ve known since my youth. Getting outside of #Kabul is important to me,” said Khalilzad in a tweet Tuesday. “I met with civil society leaders who have long called for peace, and recognize that now is the time to finally attain it.”
