President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday met prominent Afghan political leaders, inducing Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and former President Hamid Karzai, in a bid to further discuss peace in the country, Presidential Palace said in a statement.

Hours after the meeting, President Ghani said that he had a constructive meeting with prominent political leaders on peace in the country.

“This morning, I had a constructive meeting with prominent political leaders,” he said in a tweet.

Ghani said that he would continue consulting with country’s politicians and representatives from all layers of the society until they together reach to a common agreement for better Afghanistan.

“In order to reach a unified stance on the peace process, I will continue the consultation with other politicians and representatives of all walks of life with earnest,” he further said.

The statement further said that leaders have shared their views on the engagement of all movements and all layers of society in the Afghan peace process.

The consultations are aimed at changing various peace efforts into a unitized stance on peace talks.

Other attendants of the meeting were former Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, the Second Vice President Sarwar Danish and the head of the High Peace Council Mohammad Karim Khalili.
