Herat – At least two children are killed in clashes between the Afghan forces and Taliban insurgents in west of the country, local officials said Monday.
Herat governor’s spokesperson Jelani Farhad said one wounded during the armed battle, adding the two infants killed are victim’s children, marking a huge lost in the family just in a single day.
But Jelani did not confirm whether or not the victims suffer such a lost due to security forces firing.
According to sources, the operations started in Azizabad area of Shindand district.
This comes at a time President Ashraf Ghani ordered a strict rules to be implemented by Afghan forces in order to prevent civilian causalities in their operations; abort the mission otherwise.
“I’ve ordered ANDSF to either abort or to wait-out a potential target if even a single civilian is present (at the scene),” Ghani said in a tweet early March. “Our security and defense forces are committed to the rules of war and engagement and they only provide proportionate response to any enemy attacks.”
