In a controversy over Afghan peace talks between the US and Taliban, a senior American diplomat has told President Ashraf Ghani that United States officials will no longer deal with its national security adviser Hamidullah Mohib, sources said.

It comes after Mohib made a controversial remark last Thursday on peace talks between the US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban delegations in Qatar, as saying Afghan government has been deprived of the process.

The following day, US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale in a phone call with Ghani said that Mohib would no longer be received in Washington, nor would be welcomed for any business with Americans and military officials, sources said.

“Hale called Ghani and told him that Mohib is no longer welcome in D.C. The U.S. will not deal with him in Kabul or in D.C. anymore,” said a former senior Afghan official, who like the other sources requested anonymity because of the issue’s sensitivity, Reuters quoted.

The fifth rounds of peace talks between the US representative and the Taliban delegations drew conclusion on a drafted agreement regarding American troops withdrawal and assurance that Taliban would not use Afghan soil as a threatening ground against other countries.
