Afghan government lodged a complaint with the United Nation over planned peace talks between the Taliban delegations and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
Sibghat Ahmadi, MoFA spokesman, said the Pakistani government did not consult with Afghan government over such a meeting and is our right to object this approach.
“It is a clear violation of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The national sovereignty is our redline, so we will deal with the issue from various forums. The Pakistanis did not coordinate this with us, this is somehow in recognition of the Taliban,” said MoFA spokesman Sibghat Ahmadi.
Afghan government asserted that the Taliban delegations invited to Islamabad are UN blacklist and are banned to travel. Any approach disregarding this, is a clear violation of UN and international law.
“Yes, we have lodged a complaint with the UN over a trip by the Taliban delegation to Islamabad and the meeting with Pakistan’s top official; there are UN sanctions against members of the Taliban delegation which does not allow them to travel,” added Ahmadi.
It comes after the Moscow talks held in February 4-5, where Taliban delegations and a number of Afghan politicians have negotiated to end the 17-year conflict in Afghanistan.
Ten senior officials from the Taliban group, led by their chief negotiator Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, travelled to Moscow for talks with Afghan Politicians.
