A number of Wolesi Jirga (House of the People) candidates stood up on Sunday demonstrating against the Independent Election Commission (IEC) leadership, accusing widespread fraud and calling for cancellation of Kabul’s votes.
Dozens of protesters, including their advocators, rejected the initial results saying the elections in the capital were unjust and people’s right were violated, as they claim fraud during the parliamentarian polls.
“All protesting candidates support the decision of the Electoral Complaints Commission to cancel the Kabul Wolesi Jirga elections and do not accept the initial results,” said Erfanullah Erfan, one of the protesters.
Meanwhile, Abida Aziz, another protesters who also were a candidate claims that the results of the Wolesi Jirga election are set by money and the government must respond to our voices.
She added they will continue protesting and will set up tents in the city if their demands are not met.
The Wolesi Jirga elections across 32 provinces were conducted in October 20-21, and in Kandahar on October 27. The IEC has announced initial results after three months delay.
