President Ghani Casts His Vote in Kabul Today
President Ashraf Ghani officially launched the parliamentary election this morning and cast his vote at a Kabul polling station.
Addressing journalists after casting his vote, he said he wants to thank the people for having made this possible.
"I request every Afghan to use their right to vote today. It is a right and a responsibility," he said.
Ghani said that more than eight million people registered to vote and now are ready to select their future themselves.
He also said Kandahar police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq and Gen. Momin who were killed this week in an attack "were the martyrs of fighting against terrorism."
He said elections in Kandahar have been delayed for one week at the request of the people and that all of Afghanistan is sharing the grief of Kandahar people.
