Election Faces Numerous Problems in Herat

Voting process for Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) began in centre and 17 districts of Herat province today.
Mohammad Asif Rahimi, provincial governor, said that Posht Koh and Zer Koh are the only insecure districts where polling stations did not open.
Rahimi added that voting is still ongoing in the provincial centre as well as the 17 districts.
Meanwhile a number of voters and election observer bodies said that that non-availability of voter lists, dysfunctional biometric devices, election observers without specific cards, missing of voters’ name on the stations’ list were the main challenges facing the election in the province.
