At least 36 armed anti-government insurgents were killed and 18 injured in joint military operations conducted by Afghan air and ground forces in Kalasha Mer area of Maiwand district of Kandahar province.
Matiullah Hilal, deputy spokesman for Kandahar police, told Killid that the operations were conducted over the past 24 hours and one Afghan special force soldier was also killed.
Hilal added that Afghan forces also seized some weapons and ammunition of insurgents.
Armed anti-government groups are yet to comment.
