Abdullah Launches Work on Cancer Centre in Kabul

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah laid the foundation stone of a ‘Diagnosis and Treatment Centre for Cancer Diseases’ at the Kabul Medical University’s (KMU) teaching hospital of Aliabad yesterday.
The cancer centre would be built at a total cost of 27 million USD funded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to officials, all residents across the country would be provided services at the centre.
CEO Abdullah, at the foundation stone laying ceremony, said the center had been functional in the past and would be re-inaugurated after decades of unrest.
“In 2004, we reached an agreement with IAEA on equipping and preparing the centre; but work on it has since been postponed until now,” Abdullah added.
The CEO ordered officials to make efforts at accelerating work on building and equipping the centre. He asked the Kabul Medical University authorities to seriously preserve and maintain the equipment and facilities of the centre.
