Women activists who gathered at Bamyan addressed a press conference to state that Nargis Nehan, the nominee for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum was rejected as a ministerial candidate by MPs because of ongoing discrimination against women.
On Monday parliament members voted for 12 nominated ministers of whom 11 were approved by the MPs but the only female nominee for the Ministry of Mines, Nargis Nehan, was rejected.
Hakima Akbari, women rights activist in Bamyan, said that Nehan was rejected due to discriminatory behavior against women.
Meanwhile a number of MPs have rejected the allegations of discriminatory behavior and said Nehan is not qualified for the mines and petroleum ministry and that is why she was not approved by the lawmakers.
